About the Book
Who’s The Toughest Dude That’s Ever Lived?
This book discusses a topic that is of interest to almost every adult man alive from age 16 to 116: toughness! Toughness is a topic that men grapple with from puberty to death. Many men consider themselves to be tough.
Others desire to be tough but are afraid they don’t measure up and want to be tougher. Every man has a toughness story. It may not be voiced but it is there. The topic of toughness strikes at the core of who men are, who they are not, or fear they are not.

Book Synopsis
The question this book attempts to answer is right in the title: Who is the toughest dude that’s ever lived? More specifically, does such a person actually exist?
Almost every adult man would be interested in finding the answer to this question because the topic of “toughness” resonates with adult men everywhere. The question of toughness is inherent in men. It is in their DNA. Men are constantly measuring themselves against other men.
That is one reason men are drawn to physically combative sports. They are dominating creatures by nature. They have a need to prove themselves. If you need proof, observe teenage boys and grown men as they interact in sports, particularly contact sports over a period of time.
In his book, Gary attempts to answer the question through both in-person and online surveys. During his research, he asked two questions:
Who do you think is the toughest dude that’s ever lived?
Why do you consider him to be the toughest dude that’s ever lived?
He found that the “why” was just as important as the “who”.
Before conducting the surveys, Gary admits he had some preconceived beliefs that some dudes would receive just one or two votes. Some would receive more, but he doubted that any individual would stand way above all the others in number of votes. No one would be the undisputed winner.
After surveying hundreds of men, he tallied the votes and began writing his book as the culmination of his survey results. This book includes short biographies written about each man who received at least one vote in the survey. These men demonstrate different types or a combination of different types of toughness.
For additional information regarding the survey process please consult the book’s preface section.
